Dry mechanical vacuum pumps are an alternative to oil filled rotary vane pumps where oil free pumping is desirable.   Dry pumps have no gas sealing fluid.  Some dry pumps may truly have no lubricants at all whereas others may have lubricated gears / bearings that are sealed from the vacuum by O-rings.
